George Northam has over 30 years of experience in both the commercial and residential property sectors. He started his career in the mid-1980s and qualified as a Chartered Surveyor whilst training as a commercial investment/agency surveyor in Edinburgh before moving to London, where he worked for the Development arm of a large family business that had interests in various sectors worldwide. George then set up a property development company in Kent before returning to his native Scotland.
Following his return to Edinburgh George set up two private commercial property investment Funds, and assembled portfolios of commercial, multi-let ‘working stock’. Through intensive asset management value was added to individual assets which were then traded.
George has been undertaking residential schemes in Edinburgh since the late 1990s, and following the wind up of the investment funds, this is now his primary focus.

George has acquired numerous listed Edinburgh New Town offices and converted them back to residential use.
George’s earliest projects were developed jointly with a dear friend, and fellow Chartered Surveyor, Richard Barlas. Richard is very sadly no longer with us but together they put together many projects, both residentially and commercially. It was a happy partnership with a lot of fun had along the way.
More recent projects have been undertaken independently, and occasionally with joint venture partners.
George also continues to keep an eye out for new value-adding commercial investment/development opportunities, including larger-scale development sites (the latter in partnership with others) for a variety of uses including recently Student Housing.
